A capital city set out to replace plastic student cards across its entire school network. Issuing, replacing and revoking physical cards for tens of thousands of students was slow and costly — and identity, door access and attendance each lived in separate, disconnected systems.
The city needed one infrastructure: digital issuance backed by official registries, secure activation, and central administration that individual schools could still operate day to day.
mPilet puts the student card on the student’s phone. Identities are verified against national education data and activated through secure state authentication, so a new card is issued in minutes — not weeks.
Each school manages its own doors, attendance points and events in the ID Network Administrator Platform, while the city retains a single, central view. Lost cards are revoked instantly; replacements cost nothing.
Today more than one hundred schools and institutions across Estonia run on the same identity infrastructure, and a student’s first day no longer starts with a plastic card queue. Schools see access and attendance in real time, and the card lives where students already are — on their phones.
